Ecology in the News
- a custom library of news feeds
Currently home to a custom conglomerate of news feeds regarding the following subjects in particular:
1) Fisheries and Oceans
2) Water (started in response to the 4th World Water Forum, 16-22 March 2006)
3) Climate and Atmospheric Circulation
4) Energy
5) Tsunami info (started in response to the 2004 earthquake in the Indian Ocean)
Automatically gathered via several regional, national, governmental, non-governmental and science-related news feeds.
These groups contain news feeds and feeds of feeds from selected news sources, science journals, and a few NGOs from the past 16 weeks. Perspectives are localized, international, global and variably national. Originating from Canada, more than 50% of the sources I have selected are Canadian. Most feeds are automatically updated twice daily and some have the effect of flooding out others. I categorize, sort and tag it as time and resources allow, but even so, best practices are up to you, as always: sift and think.

I originally built this site to demonstrate a powerful, light-weight content management system that is back-ended by a MySQL database. Here, the content management system uses Drupal, an open source program that is also being used to manage content and the interactive functions of such sites as mozilla.org and The Onion.
It can easily be adapted to meet the purposes of individuals and organizations- individual and group blogs, publishing articles, collaborative book writing, forums, and more add-on modules to choose from than anyone could possibly need. This particular site consists of grouped and aggregated cycling news feeds I have set up in the TURLIUK NEWS LIBRARY which relate to global air/water circulation. This library is intended for personal use in the study of these issues as they relate to public health.
